Outside Sales Representative – Parts and Service
Sell Caterpillar parts/services, manage accounts, and support generator customers.
Job Highlights
About the Role
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships; recommend parts and service solutions • Promote product support programs such as loadbank testing, cooling system service, and engine/generator overhauls • Develop and sell maintenance contracts • Provide accurate parts and service quotes • Track competitor parts and service offerings • Report lost parts and service sales • Meet sales, profit, unit, and close‑ratio targets • Keep machine population data current for assigned territory • Coordinate service and parts delivery to ensure superior customer experience • Generate new business and achieve sales goals • Deliver training and support for equipment operation and maintenance • Maintain customer accounts in CRM software • Provide after‑hours support as needed • Participate in trade events and maintain industry organization memberships

A background check and drug test are required as part of the pre‑employment process, and we are an equal‑opportunity employer that embraces diversity. • Associate degree or trade school certification plus high school diploma • 3–5 years experience supporting prime/standby generators in parts or service roles • 3–5 years direct generator‑industry experience (sales/support, facility management, wholesale, or rental) • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Excellent problem‑solving, attention to detail, and proactive customer‑first mindset • Ability to work independently, manage time, and stay organized in a fast‑paced environment • Willingness to work after hours and travel for training, including occasional overnight stays • Valid driver’s license with clean record and basic math skills • Preferred: experience in sales or territory management • Preferred: knowledge of Caterpillar products • Preferred: background with diesel/gas engines or generator‑related business

Benefits
The position offers a starting compensation range of $70,000‑$100,000, comprising a base salary plus a performance‑based commission structure. Outside Sales Representatives typically earn within this range in the first year, with unlimited earning potential in subsequent years.
