About the Role

BGIS welcomes applicants of all backgrounds and will provide reasonable accommodations during the recruitment process upon request. • Install air conditioning, heating, and related equipment and components. • Overhaul and service air conditioning and heating units and systems. • Repair, replace, and adjust worn or broken HVAC parts. • Repair and adjust valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings. • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with heating and air conditioning units and systems. • Install motors, thermostats, and humidistats. • Perform work according to established processes and practices. • Comply with internal and external environmental, health and safety, and fire protection requirements. • Respond to routine and on‑demand service requests; perform preventive and corrective maintenance. • Conduct regular monitoring, inspections, and preventive maintenance to ensure facility uptime and asset integrity. • Conduct facility walkthroughs and monitor mechanical and electrical equipment. • Assist in implementing preventive maintenance programs; record and escalate deficiencies. • Maintain accurate inventory of tools/equipment; arrange repairs or replacements. • Provide observations on facility conditions and recommend enhancements or repairs. • Participate in facility‑related projects. • Ensure work complies with corporate, legislative, environmental, health and safety, and fire protection policies. • Submit expenditures in a timely manner.

What You Bring

The HVAC Journeyperson or Apprentice Roving holds a valid provincial Certificate of Qualification and is responsible for operating facility systems, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, and ensuring compliance with environmental, health and safety, security, and fire protection requirements. Candidates must have a college diploma or certification, be a licensed HVAC/Refrigeration Technician or registered apprentice, and possess a strong safety mindset, client‑service orientation, and effective communication skills. Additional assets include BES Operation Class 1, Facilities Technician, and Systems Maintenance Technician certifications. • College diploma or certification; licensed HVAC/Refrigeration Technician or registered apprentice. • Valid HVAC Certificate of Qualification (e.g., 313A in Ontario) or apprentice status. • Minimum Gasfitter II license plus refrigeration license. • Current knowledge of fire, life, safety, and building codes; ability to research and apply them. • Strong environmental, health and safety mindset; ability to work safely. • Strong client‑service orientation with high sense of urgency. • Effective communication for data relay, feedback, and clarification. • Mentoring skills to support development of lower‑level technicians. • Ability to work shifts, on‑call/standby and emergency call‑outs; wear PPE. • Valid driver’s licence and meet enhanced security clearance requirements. • Working towards Building Environment Systems (BES) Operation Class 1 – asset. • Facilities Technician Certification – asset. • Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT) certification – asset.
