About the Role

The Machinist role is part of the Machine Operation family and is based at the company’s manufacturing plant in Michigan City. Reporting to the Machine Shop Supervisor, the incumbent will contribute to the production of air‑power equipment by operating and maintaining machining tools. Key duties include preparing machines for production, adjusting tools and workpieces, diagnosing and resolving equipment issues, and handling raw materials safely. The position also requires operating forklifts and overhead cranes to move components, while ensuring that daily production schedules, quality standards, and delivery commitments are met. • Set up, troubleshoot, and operate CNC grinders, lathes, and mills. • Perform safe material handling, including forklift and overhead crane operation. • Meet daily production, quality, and on‑time delivery targets. • Use precision measurement tools to work within .0005 tolerances. • Read and interpret technical blueprints and engineering drawings. • Utilize computer applications such as spreadsheets, data entry, and email. • Maintain a Forklift Operator’s License and follow safety protocols. • Uphold Hitachi’s Code of Ethics and contribute to a safe workplace.

What You Bring

Applicants should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with basic reading and strong mathematical abilities. Preferred candidates have 1‑3 years of machining experience or relevant trade schooling, are comfortable interpreting technical blueprints, and are proficient with computer applications such as spreadsheets and email. The role demands precise work using measurement devices within .0005 tolerances and familiarity with CNC grinders, lathes and mills. Physical requirements include lifting up to 35 lb (heavier loads with assistance), standing or walking for at least eight hours, and the ability to work in awkward positions. • Demonstrate strong math skills, critical thinking, and effective communication. • Ability to lift 35 lb (or use lifting device for heavier loads) and stand/walk up to 8 hours.
