Landfill Heavy Equip Operator

About the Role

The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and compact waste or soil efficiently. The role focuses on maintaining safety while completing these tasks. The operator performs pre- and post‑operation inspections of equipment, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear‑view cameras are clean. They safely operate machinery such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front‑end loaders while continuously monitoring waste for unacceptable material and equipment condition. Minor service tasks are performed and documented, with more complex mechanical issues referred to the Maintenance Shop. Reports, including Equipment Condition Reports, are completed and any needed repairs are reported to the supervisor. The shop is kept clean and organized at the end of each shift, and other job‑related duties are performed as assigned.

Strong time‑management and follow‑through abilities ensure responsibilities are completed efficiently and safely. The employee must adhere to company policies, promote safety standards, avoid inappropriate risks, and take pride in their work. Candidates must have at least two years of related heavy‑equipment operation experience and one year of experience working at OSHA‑regulated sites. These minimum requirements ensure the operator can perform the duties safely and effectively.
