About the Role

Key responsibilities include collaborating with corporate and market leadership to set safety goals, overseeing the DriveCam system with analysis, coaching, and ride‑alongs, and managing the Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention program through protection validation studies. The role also handles safety communications, incident management, district‑specific safety plans, hazardous energy control, regulatory compliance (DOT/OSHA), facility safety audits, recognition programs, employee health monitoring, and PPE policy administration. Additionally, the manager coaches safety staff and leaders using observations and training to improve risk management across the market. Leadership competencies expected are execution, planning and organizing, influencing, driving for results, coaching and developing others, facilitating change, and building customer relationships. These competencies ensure the manager can focus priorities, measure progress, hold teams accountable, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and safety excellence. The position includes direct supervision of two full‑time Safety Coordinators, providing guidance and performance oversight while maintaining a non‑supervisory employee management focus. • Partner with corporate and market leaders to align safety strategy and goals. • Oversee DriveCam system analysis, coaching, and ride‑alongs for drivers and site managers. • Lead Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention program and conduct protection validation studies. • Develop and disseminate safety communications and awareness messaging. • Manage incident investigations, reporting, root cause analysis, and data entry in the EH&S portal. • Ensure District Specific Safety Plans are operational and effective. • Direct hazardous energy control program training and compliance. • Maintain DOT and OSHA regulatory compliance across operations. • Conduct facility safety audits, emergency preparedness planning, and equipment reviews. • Administer safety recognition programs and employee health monitoring. • Manage PPE policies, procurement, and supply chain coordination. • Coach and develop safety staff and leaders through observations and training. • Supervise two full‑time Safety Coordinators. • Travel throughout market area (San Diego to Fresno) to support multiple sites.

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree (or a high school diploma with four years of relevant experience) and have five to seven years of safety or operations management experience. Preferred certifications include Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Professional Engineer, Qualified Environmental Professional, Registered Environmental Manager, and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager. Strong knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations, excellent communication, leadership, and public‑speaking skills are required. The work environment includes office, shop, landfill, and transfer‑station settings with exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes. Physical demands involve moderate lifting (objects under 30 lb), finger dexterity for keyboarding and equipment operation, and occasional exposure to cuts, burns, or toxic chemicals. Benefits

The hybrid position offers a base salary ranging from $111,205 to $144,440, plus incentive pay.
