About the Role

The Garden Attendant will handle plant care such as transplanting, pruning, harvesting, organic pest control, and trellising, as well as greenhouse duties like seed starting, soil blocking, and temperature monitoring. Responsibilities also include harvest processing, maintaining garden beds and surrounding grounds, basic upkeep of buildings and equipment, and caring for the on‑site chicken coop, including feeding, health checks, and egg collection. Daily record‑keeping, watering, tool operation, and keeping work areas orderly are essential, along with greeting members and assisting children during tours and classes. • Transplant, prune, and harvest plants using organic methods. • Start seeds, block soil, and manage greenhouse conditions. • Weigh, clean, organize, and distribute harvested produce. • Maintain garden beds, remove weeds, and apply hand watering/irrigation. • Care for chickens: feed, water, health checks, egg collection, and chick raising. • Record daily operations, logs, and equipment usage in management system. • Operate hand tools and equipment safely, including mowers and power tools. • Keep work areas, buildings, and equipment tidy and organized. • Greet members and children, assist with tours, classes, and produce pick‑ups. • Report safety or maintenance issues promptly to the Garden Manager. • Attend department meetings and training sessions.

What You Bring

Candidates must have gardening or farm experience, preferably with organic practices, and be able to communicate effectively with members, children, and team members. Hospitality experience, a flexible schedule, and the ability to stay calm during busy periods are desired. Applicants should be comfortable operating small tools and equipment, meet the physical demands of outdoor work, possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license, and be able to work safely and professionally at all times. • Possess gardening/farm experience with organic plant knowledge. • Communicate effectively with members, children, and team members. • Meet physical demands, lift up to 50 lb, stand/walk >8 hr outdoors. • Hold a valid Tennessee driver’s license and operate vehicles safely.
