Staff Wetland Scientist

About the Role
The scientist will conduct wetland delineations, vegetation and habitat surveys, threatened species assessments, and avian/wildlife surveys, producing technical reports and permit applications for various federal statutes. When required, the individual will independently assign and oversee field crew activities, ensure safety, communicate with senior managers, resolve complaints, and monitor productivity. • Conduct wetland delineations, vegetation, habitat, threatened species, and wildlife surveys. • Prepare technical reports and permit applications under the Clean Water Act, ESA, NEPA, etc. • Independently supervise and assign tasks to a biological survey crew in the field. • Ensure crew safety, address complaints, and provide performance feedback. • Maintain digital field data, use GPS devices and ArcGIS for mapping. • Travel to field sites, work long hours in inclement weather, and carry equipment up to 40 lb. • Provide medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k) profit‑sharing, and employee assistance plans. • Support professional growth through conferences, training, education reimbursement, and career‑development initiatives. • Promote diversity, inclusion, and salary transparency; encourage applicants of all backgrounds.

What You Bring
Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree in a related science, at least two years of natural‑resources experience (one year of wetland field work), proficiency with GPS and ArcGIS, ability to perform physically demanding field tasks, a valid driver’s license, and strong communication and client‑service skills. Preferred qualifications include additional leadership experience, extensive botanical taxonomy knowledge, and prior work leading wetland teams in Ohio. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Water Resources, Botany, or related field. • Possess at least 2 years of natural‑resources experience, including 1 year of wetland field work. • Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail. • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a 4WD vehicle on backcountry roads. • Preferred: 1‑2 years leading wetland surveys, extensive botanical taxonomy knowledge, experience mentoring teams in Ohio.
