About the Role

The Substation Designer will be responsible for leading the CAD design of high‑voltage substations and switchyards, supporting protection and control design, coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams, and ensuring project delivery that exceeds client expectations. • Lead detailed CAD design of high‑voltage substations and switchyards, including general arrangement, site layouts, sections/elevations, and conductor selection calculations. • Create grounding grids, cable tray/duct bank layouts, yard lighting, lightning protection, and prefabricated control building designs. • Perform voltage drop analysis, conduit/cable fill calculations, and prepare comprehensive bills of materials. • Develop protection and control design packages such as single‑line and three‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts. • Coordinate with renewable‑energy collector, civil, structural, and transmission line design teams to integrate substation designs. • Interface with internal and external engineers, designers, drafters, and project managers to meet and exceed client expectations. • Support the development and optimization of standards, processes, and execution plans with strong follow‑through.

What You Bring

Candidates should possess a relevant diploma or degree, extensive experience with industry CAD tools, strong technical and communication skills, and the ability to work independently on multi‑discipline projects. Authorization to work in Canada is required. • Hold a diploma or bachelor’s degree in drafting or electrical design. • Minimum five years of experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D, or AutoCAD Map3D in power delivery, renewable energy, or power generation. • Demonstrate strong CAD skills, including layer management, blocks, XREFs, coordinate systems, annotations, and dimensioning in line with industry standards. • Possess knowledge of ANSI/IEEE, NESC, NEC, and CSA codes (preferred). • Exhibit excellent time‑management, organization, and advanced MS Office proficiency. • Show strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
