About the Role
Groundmen are responsible for installing and removing both overhead and underground conductors, rigging equipment for crane operations, and driving a range of commercial vehicles. They also operate helicopters, ATVs, and snowcats to support construction activities. This role offers the chance to work on electric transmission line circuits, including setting and removing poles and towers and installing and removing conductors. Competencies include familiarity with many types of line‑construction equipment, strong computer skills for training compliance, and knowledge of safe hand‑ and power‑tool usage. Workers must understand rope and knot techniques and be knowledgeable about DOT regulations. Some out‑of‑town travel to other Xcel Energy Colorado territories is required. Minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or GED, experience operating construction equipment, and a Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Candidates must pass the EEI Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test, demonstrate a high commitment to safety, and possess excellent communication skills. The position demands excellent physical condition, the ability to handle a 90‑lb jackhammer, availability for after‑hours call‑outs, and residence within 40 miles of the operations center. • Hold a high school diploma or GED and a Class A CDL. • Pass the EEI Construction and Skilled Trades selection test. • Maintain excellent physical condition, able to handle a 90‑lb jackhammer. • Reside within 40 miles of the Mesa County Operations Center.
