About the Role

Key duties include operating, monitoring, inspecting, and maintaining boilers, turbines, condensers, generators, and auxiliary equipment; performing startups, shutdowns, equipment tests, and adjustments; recognizing abnormal performance and taking corrective action; and responding to plant emergencies and changing operating conditions. The role also requires generating work requests and event reports, switching high‑voltage equipment, handling clearances for inspections, complying with safety and environmental regulations, completing all required paperwork, and contributing to budgeting and outage planning. • Operate, monitor, and maintain boilers, turbines, generators, condensers, and auxiliary systems. • Perform startups, shutdowns, equipment tests, and operating adjustments. • Identify abnormal equipment performance and initiate corrective actions. • Generate transmission work requests, plant event reports, and trouble reports using computer systems. • Switch voltages up to 230 kV and replace generator brushes. • Follow safety, OSHA, and environmental regulations; use hand and power tools safely. • Complete work orders, log sheets, and parts records accurately. • Contribute to operational budgeting, work planning, and outage scheduling. • Train and mentor other personnel on operating and maintenance procedures. • Read and interpret one‑line electrical schematics, plant flow diagrams, and equipment manuals.

What You Bring

The Operator Repairman must possess a broad understanding of plant equipment, procedures, and operations, as well as specialized expertise in operating CTs, HRSGs, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary power systems. Knowledge of electrical theory, generator synchronization, excitation, voltage and load control, transformer operation, and station and transmission switching is essential. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, a Minnesota State First Class Grade "A" license (with a requirement to obtain a Chief Class Grade "A" within two years), and the ability to read and interpret one‑line electrical schematics, plant flow diagrams, and equipment manuals. Demonstrated mechanical maintenance skills equivalent to a repairman, strong verbal and written communication abilities, and the capacity to make quick, sound decisions during emergencies are also required. • Maintain a Minnesota State First Class Grade "A" license; obtain Chief Class "A" within two years. • Demonstrate proficiency in mechanical maintenance equivalent to a repairman. • Communicate technical information verbally and in writing to plant staff.
