About the Role

The Principal Engineer – Mission Integration is a senior technical leadership position within the Mission Integration Operating Unit, acting as the Technical Authority for complex Defence programmes and capture activities. The role provides strategic and operational direction to ensure engineering capability, assurance and professional standards align with KBR and customer regulatory frameworks. Key responsibilities include governing engineering processes, managing technical assurance functions, shaping the professional development of the engineering workforce, and collaborating with People & Culture to build career pathways in a highly regulated defence environment. • Provide technical leadership and serve as Technical Authority across the Mission Integration Operating Unit. • Define and govern engineering requirements, competence, and professionalisation of the technical workforce. • Develop, maintain, and integrate Mission Integration engineering processes with the KBR Quality system. • Manage delegation processes and approve technical assurance delegations for engineering leaders. • Oversee technical assurance functions, including quality audits, corrective actions, reporting, and lessons learned. • Advise programs and projects with technical guidance and source internal/external expertise as needed. • Lead the creation of technical learning and development frameworks and career pathways. • Participate in project status reviews and collaborate with People & Culture on talent development.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline, be eligible for Professional Engineer registration in Australia, and possess at least 15 years of digital systems experience, including senior‑level design delegation and leadership of large engineering teams in defence or similarly regulated sectors. A deep understanding of systems engineering, the Australian Defence Force regulatory domains, and ASDEFCON documentation is essential, along with the ability to obtain an NV1 security clearance. • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline (Washington Accord accredited) and relevant professional certifications. • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia (FIEAust, CPEng, PE) and Australian state/federal regulations. • 15+ years experience in digital systems, with senior‑level design delegation and compliance verification. • Proven leadership of large engineering teams (12+ engineers) in defence or highly regulated environments. • Extensive systems engineering experience across design, validation, verification, and certification of complex defence programmes. • Strong knowledge of Australian Defence Force domains (Air, Sea, Land, Space, Cyber) and software‑dominant system integration. • Experience with ASDEFCON contract documentation and engineering series documents. • Ability to obtain Australian Government Security Clearance (NV1 or higher). • Master’s degree in a technical field (desired). • Full lifecycle engineering experience across multiple programmes and change management. • Expertise in system safety assurance, compliance verification, and design assurance certification. • Experience with innovation, uncertainty management, and capability maturation (people, process, tools). • Familiarity with DevOps, Agile/SAFe, and coding languages such as Python or JavaScript. • Experience in software/hardware integration, data bus interfaces, real‑time processing, and sensor fusion. • Knowledge of secure, resilient communications, cyber resilience, threat modeling, and MOSA.
