About the Role
Key responsibilities include client relationship development, delivery‑led growth, pursuit and opportunity shaping, and operational and financial accountability. The role also involves personal capability building, key account management, customer relationship development, sales opportunity creation, and promoting customer focus. • Serve as trusted advisor to existing clients, leading projects and ensuring consistent delivery. • Maintain deep understanding of client priorities, funding realities, and community outcomes. • Lead delivery of key projects, aligning outcomes with client expectations and converting success into repeat work. • Identify and pursue growth opportunities emerging from active projects and client engagements. • Shape and lead pursuit efforts, contributing to proposal strategy, messaging, and contract negotiations. • Oversee project performance (scope, schedule, budget, quality) and manage KPIs such as backlog, margin, and client health. • Act as subject‑matter expert, maintaining external accreditations and staying current on regulations and best practices. • Manage a portfolio of complex customer relationships and mentor account managers. • Develop and execute relationship management plans for strategic accounts, facilitating two‑way communication and issue resolution. • Build a network of senior managers, obtain market intelligence, and promote GHD at industry events. • Lead cross‑functional teams to design tailored solutions, negotiate agreements, and ensure profitability. • Ensure operational compliance with company policies, regulatory codes, and codes of conduct.

What You Bring
The Project Director‑Transportation‑Bay Area position acts as a “seller‑doer” building trust by connecting what we promise during pursuits, how we deliver during execution, and why clients choose us again for future work. This role can be based in San Francisco, Oakland, or Concord, CA, and operates in a hybrid model requiring three days a week in the office to collaborate and excel. Education requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a similar field. Preferred qualifications include a Professional Engineer license, at least 10 years of municipal or public sector project delivery experience, strong seller‑doer and business development skills, and proficiency with CRM tools such as Salesforce. • Qualifications: Professional Engineer license (preferred), ≥10 years municipal/public sector delivery experience, strong business development and proposal skills, excellent communication and negotiation, ability to lead cross‑functional teams, proficiency in Salesforce and Microsoft Office, strategic client‑centric mindset.
