About the Role

Within the Industrial sector, HDR engineers shape efficient, advanced infrastructure and promote environmental stewardship. They partner with clients across industries to responsibly optimize processes, modernize facilities, and solve complex challenges throughout the full project life cycle, from evaluation and planning to design, construction monitoring, and operations. The role of Geotechnical Engineer involves developing engineering designs, sketches, plans, specifications, and cost estimates, as well as overseeing subsurface characterization programs for routine work. The engineer performs complex assignments, selects and modifies standard techniques, and leads teams that conduct slope stability, settlement, and seepage analyses on complex projects. Additional responsibilities include making critical design and engineering decisions, acting as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid‑size projects when needed, supervising a small staff of professionals and technicians, and handling other duties as required. • Develop geotechnical designs, sketches, plans, specifications, and cost estimates. • Lead subsurface characterization programs for routine work. • Perform complex engineering evaluations and adapt standard techniques. • Oversee teams conducting slope stability, settlement, and seepage analyses. • Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures. • Serve as Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid‑size projects as needed. • Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians. • Commit to HDR’s employee‑owned culture and inclusive environment.

What You Bring

Preferred qualifications include a minimum of three years of relevant experience and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) is preferred. Required qualifications are a bachelor's degree and a professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board of the job location (e.g., PE or P.Eng). Candidates must be proficient with Microsoft Office, MicroStation or similar software, GeoStudio/Ensoft for slope stability, settlement, seepage, and deep foundation analysis, and Bentley’s geotechnical data management tools such as gINT, OpenGround, and LeapFrog, while demonstrating a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture. • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience; MSCE preferred. • Hold a professional engineering license for the position’s location. • Proficient with Microsoft Office, MicroStation, GeoStudio/Ensoft, and Bentley geotechnical software (gINT, OpenGround, LeapFrog).
