About the Role
Boilermakers construct iron/steel structures to specifications, working on the construction of a Heat Recovery Exchange Generator (HRSG) and other miscellaneous structures for a new construction project. • Read blueprints and specifications to determine material quantities, locations, and sizes. • Identify and gather all tools needed for each task. • Assess safety risks and implement required precautions. • Fabricate equipment per blueprints or supervisor instructions. • Hoist equipment and tools using bull rigging or crane. • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members with plumb bobs, lasers, transits, or levels. • Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts according to drawings. • Position and secure structural steel members for permanent riveting or bolting. • Manipulate iron/steel components into approximate positions for fastening. • Cut, bend, and weld iron/steel pieces using shears, torches, and welding equipment. • Lead erection, fabrication, grid layout, and rigging activities. • Read and interpret IFC drawings, cut sheets, craft specifications, and engineering change notices. • Initiate RFIs and stop work when necessary. • Apply correct rigging practices, including selection of chokers, slings, and proper knots. • Perform layout from drawings, cut materials, and apply proper torque and tension methods. • Operate specialty tools such as torque wrenches, skidmores, torque guns, magnetic and Hogan drills. • Perform basic MIG, stick, and gas welding setup and operations. • Use JLG man‑baskets and cranes safely and conduct basic equipment inspections. • Apply math calculations (footage, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions) to craft duties. • Plan work, assign helpers, and execute tasks from drawings.

What You Bring
Candidates must have at least 4 years of experience as a Boilermaker Helper, Boilermaker Ironworker, or comparable role such as a structural fitter with HRSG experience, including work on gas‑fired combined‑cycle power unit HRSGs. They must meet all listed knowledge, skills, and abilities, satisfy physical requirements, work at heights over 300 ft, possess required tools and reliable transportation, and pass pre‑employment screenings. The role requires extensive standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 50 lb, as well as work at heights using ladders, platforms, and man lifts with appropriate fall protection. Personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, vest, gloves, and leather boots must be worn. • Execute proper bolting procedures, understanding torque versus tension. • Preferred: Current or former Zachry employee, NCCER Industrial Journeyman Carpenter certification, formal technical education.
