About the Role
WSP is hiring an Early Career Environmental Scientist to work from its Shelton or Glastonbury, Connecticut office. The role supports local technical assistance for collecting, identifying, and compiling observational and spatial data across hydraulic, geological, physical, and earth science disciplines, and contributes to environmental investigations, remedial actions, and water source management. The scientist will conduct field surveys, gather air, soil, water, and sludge samples, and assist with Phase I, II, and III environmental site assessments and remedial actions. Responsibilities also include maintaining quality‑control standards, supporting hydrogeologic services, producing accurate documentation, following safety protocols, and applying modern technologies and ethical decision‑making. • Conduct field surveys to collect observational, spatial, and environmental data. • Gather and compile air, soil, water, sludge, and other samples for laboratory analysis. • Perform Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and support Phase II/III assessments and remedial actions. • Apply quality‑control procedures for precise measurement and documentation. • Support hydrogeologic services such as stream‑flow and aquifer testing. • Produce complete, accurate documentation using electronic systems and field notebooks. • Follow safety guidelines and maintain sample collection and data logs. • Utilize latest technologies and techniques for habitat and impact analysis. • Complete assigned training and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Participate in professional practice organizations (preferred).

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, or a related field, and have up to one year of relevant experience. Strong computer and writing skills are required, with proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS considered a plus, along with effective communication, self‑leadership, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant science discipline (master’s preferred). • Demonstrate strong computer, writing, and GIS (ArcGIS) skills. • Exhibit strong interpersonal, communication, and self‑leadership abilities. • Be able to work independently under supervision and collaboratively within a team. • Familiarity with environmental laws, regulations, and record‑keeping is a plus.
