About the Role

The Thermite Welder Helper is responsible for helping and assisting the Thermite Welder to repair railroad tracks in heavy construction environments. • Perform basic track duties such as spiking, anchoring, and surfacing. • Detect equipment malfunctions or defective materials and report to supervisors. • Operate equipment in compliance with safety policies, rules, and regulations. • Report daily activities to the Thermite Welder and communicate job completion status. • Assist the Thermite Welder in problem solving and cost‑effective repairs. • Work outdoors on railroad construction sites in various positions (flat, vertical, overhead). • Perform physical tasks including standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, and crouching. • Lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 75 lb as part of heavy labor duties. • Operate under extreme weather conditions and exposure to loud noise, dust, and fumes.

What You Bring

• Experience with Railtech Boutet, Orgo‑Thermit thermite welding processes. • Proficient in oxygen/propane cutting and preheating techniques. • Skilled in rail cutting, measuring, removal, replacement, switch configuration, and track construction/restoration. • Minimum two years of thermite welding experience in a heavy railroad industrial setting. • Thorough knowledge of thermite welding processes and procedures. • Certified in Contractor Orientation, ERail Safe, and Railway Maintenance Machine Operation. • Understand and consistently follow all safety policies, rules, and regulations. • Wear required personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, boots, hard hat, and hearing protection.
