About the Role
In this position you will be responsible for the safe and compliant commissioning of low‑voltage electrical systems, including authorising and managing LV work permits and ensuring adherence to stringent Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS) and Quality Assurance (QA) standards throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, commissioning engineers, site supervisors and external stakeholders, promoting a strong safety culture and providing guidance on permit procedures, EHS practices and quality requirements. • Review, authorise, and issue low‑voltage work permits in line with company policies and regulatory requirements. • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify compliance with permit conditions and safe work practices. • Support development and implementation of EHS plans and procedures for LV commissioning activities. • Investigate EHS incidents, near‑misses and non‑conformities, recommending corrective and preventive actions. • Deliver EHS inductions and toolbox talks for personnel working under LV permits. • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant EHS legislation, standards and best practices. • Verify that commissioning activities meet specified quality standards, project specifications and Hitachi’s quality management system. • Participate in quality audits and inspections, ensuring proper documentation, testing and verification of LV systems. • Identify and report quality deviations, facilitating timely resolution during project execution. • Promote a strong safety culture among commissioning teams and contractors. • Prepare and maintain comprehensive EHS and QA documentation related to LV commissioning. • Generate regular reports on permit status, EHS performance and quality metrics. • Communicate effectively with project managers, commissioning engineers, site supervisors and external stakeholders on safety and quality matters. • Provide guidance and training on safe work practices, permit procedures and EHS/QA requirements. • Act as subject‑matter expert for LV safety protocols. • Maintain proactive self‑management to achieve key targets and goals.

What You Bring
Hitachi Energy UK Limited is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer for its Grid & Power Quality Solutions Service business. The role is remote within England, with occasional visits to the Birmingham office and client sites across the UK and EU, requiring up to 50 % travel. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. • Hold an engineering degree or equivalent with proven background in low‑voltage electrical systems. • Possess experience in EHS, QA or commissioning roles, preferably with gas turbines or similar equipment. • Demonstrate in‑depth knowledge of electrical safety regulations and standards (IEC, BS EN) for LV systems. • Hold relevant EHS certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) – highly desirable. • Be a certified Authorized Person (AP) for low‑voltage systems – essential. • Exhibit strong customer focus and communication skills for managing geographically dispersed teams. • Show flexibility to travel on short notice and ability to mobilise quickly.
