About the Role

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for developing new and modified diagrams and creating designs for prototypes and new HVAC equipment, defining specifications for each component. Collaboration with electrical and mechanical designers and engineers ensures seamless integration of product designs with other systems, while providing design guidance and oversight to mechanical designers to release optimized designs. Key duties include establishing procedures for testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment; testing and troubleshooting designs to confirm proper function and safety; and working with engineering and operations to implement engineering change notices. The role also supports the production team during prototypes and initial production, coordinates part shortages, builds test fixtures, and creates cost estimates for design features. The engineer develops bills of materials, translation documents, and product documentation such as operating instructions, and performs mechanical CAD modeling and simulations. Support is provided for DFMEAs, PFMEAs, CFD, FEA, and seismic evaluations, while staying current with local and national design codes and safety regulations such as UL, CE, NEC, IBC, and NFPA. • Develop and modify equipment diagrams and prototype designs, defining component specifications. • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical teams to ensure seamless system integration. • Provide design guidance and oversight to mechanical designers for optimized releases. • Establish testing, operation, maintenance, and repair procedures for equipment. • Test and troubleshoot designs to verify functionality and safety compliance. • Implement engineering change notices in coordination with engineering and operations. • Support production during prototypes and initial production runs. • Coordinate part shortages, build test fixtures, and approve deviations. • Create cost estimates for design features, including material, labor, and equipment. • Update ECAT tables and conduct testing for new product designs. • Review product specifications and make design recommendations. • Develop bills of materials and translation documents for new or changed designs. • Prepare product documentation, operating instructions, and technical literature reviews. • Perform mechanical CAD modeling, simulations, and support DFMEAs, PFMEAs, CFD, FEA, and seismic evaluations. • Maintain current knowledge of design codes and safety standards (UL, CE, NEC, IBC, NFPA).
