About the Role

The Melbourne-based Technical Director will act as Building Services Team Leader within AECOM’s Building Engineering sector. This senior position oversees a large, multi-disciplinary team of engineers and modelers, applying deep technical knowledge to deliver landmark building services projects across Australia and New Zealand. In this role you will steer complex, multi-disciplinary projects across health, education, defence, transport, commercial, aviation, sports and data-centre markets, provide technical leadership and governance for electrical and mechanical design, and ensure compliance with Australian codes and best-practice principles. You will champion innovation by reviewing calculations, specifications and models, nurture client relationships to grow the project pipeline, mentor the engineering team, and strengthen AECOM’s building services capability regionally. • Lead the delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary building projects across key markets including health, education, defence, transport, commercial, aviation, sports and data centres throughout Australia. • Provide technical leadership and governance across electrical or mechanical building services design, ensuring compliance with Australian codes, standards, and best‑practice engineering principles. • Drive innovation and excellence in project execution by reviewing design calculations, specifications, models, and documentation, ensuring high‑quality, coordinated outcomes. • Build and maintain trusted client relationships, supporting business development and securing a strong pipeline of high‑profile building services projects. • Mentor and develop multidisciplinary services engineering team, fostering technical excellence, leadership capability, and a high‑performance team culture. • Strengthen AECOM’s Building Services capability across ANZ, contributing to local and national strategy, team growth, and capability development.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, roughly 20 years of consultancy experience, and chartered status with Engineers Australia (CPEng) or equivalent registration. You must possess extensive technical expertise in design, deep knowledge of Australian codes, outstanding communication and stakeholder-management abilities, proven project and commercial management success, and demonstrated leadership and emotional intelligence. Australian citizenship and eligibility for Defence Security Clearance are highly preferred. • Bachelor of Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with ideally 20+ years of consultancy experience delivering complex building services engineering projects. • Chartered status with Engineers Australia (CPEng) or equivalent registration, eligible for state‑level professional registration (RPV). • Extensive technical expertise in discipline‑related design with deep knowledge of Australian codes, standards and regulations. • Exceptional communication and stakeholder‑management skills, capable of engaging clients, contractors, consultants and senior project teams. • Proven excellence in project and commercial management, leading multi‑disciplinary teams on high‑profile, technically challenging projects. • Demonstrated leadership, emotional intelligence and ability to foster a high‑performing, technically capable team culture. • Australian citizenship and eligibility for Defence Security Clearance are highly preferred.
