About the Role

Key responsibilities include erecting and dismantling scaffolding, removing and installing non‑asbestos pipe insulation, performing heavy labour and routine maintenance, operating snow‑plowing equipment and mobile sweepers, cleaning plant equipment, and carrying out preventative, repair, environmental, and vegetative control tasks. The role also involves supporting other utility workers and traveling throughout the province for temporary assignments as needed. The position is safety‑sensitive; the worker must uphold personal and coworker safety, comply with all Occupational Health and Safety regulations, proactively participate in risk assessments, and meet environmental performance standards, while adhering to the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy. • Erect and dismantle scaffolding, and install or remove non‑asbestos pipe insulation. • Perform heavy labour, routine and preventative maintenance, and operate snow‑plows and mobile sweepers. • Clean plant equipment and conduct environmental and vegetative control activities. • Support fellow utility workers and travel province‑wide for temporary assignments. • Observe and enforce occupational health and safety regulations and risk‑assessment procedures. • Maintain environmental performance according to the company’s management system. • Work safely in confined spaces using appropriate personal protective equipment.

What You Bring

Employees are required to complete training such as in‑house safety, environmental programs, SAIA Systems Scaffold endorsement, and vehicle‑operation courses, and to engage in on‑the‑job training to develop additional skills. Required competencies include a Grade XII education (or equivalent), ability to perform heavy labour and use hand/power tools, self‑motivation, teamwork, strong environmental awareness, a valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence with at least two years’ experience and a satisfactory driver’s abstract, and, preferably, experience or certification in staging erection or pipe insulation. The candidate must also be capable of working in confined spaces using proper personal protective equipment. Physical demands involve lifting 17‑66 lb, carrying 25‑66 lb, using grip strength for turning motions, pushing/pulling 20‑50 lb, performing static reaching, frequent walking, and occasional standing, bending, squatting, twisting, as well as working in warm temperatures and confined spaces while discriminating colours. • Complete in‑house safety, environmental, scaffold certification, and vehicle‑operation training. • Hold a Grade 12 education (or equivalent) and proficiently use hand and power tools. • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence with at least two years’ experience and provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract. • Experience or certification in staging erection or pipe insulation is an asset. • Meet physical demands: lift 17‑66 lb, carry 25‑66 lb, push/pull 20‑50 lb, and perform frequent walking and bending.
