About the Role

The Chief Engineer provides daily leadership for the engineering staff, managing the engineering program to deliver high‑quality work and exceptional customer service while aligning the department with the management team, C&W engineering platform, and client expectations. This role adheres to the highest ethical standards as defined by C&W's Business Code of Conduct and related policies. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, coordinating, and supervising mechanical operations, maintenance, communications, energy management, and manpower development programs for assigned properties. The Chief Engineer may also perform limited hands‑on operational duties and participate in watch activities. Key duties involve supervising engineers and maintenance staff through hiring, training, and performance management; ensuring 100% compliance with safety programs and regulations; managing operational accounts, budgets, and utility consumption; conducting regular building‑system inspections; developing and maintaining preventive and predictive maintenance programs and manuals; overseeing an operations document library; providing training on building systems; coordinating with contractors, tenants, and vendors; overseeing all building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire/life safety; handling emergency response; managing inventory and procurement; and ensuring compliance with codes and company directives. • Lead, hire, train, and develop engineering and maintenance teams. • Ensure 100% compliance with safety programs and all applicable codes. • Manage building operational accounts, budgets, and utility consumption. • Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance schedules and documentation. • Oversee building systems—including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire/life safety—and stay current with technology trends. • Coordinate contractor work, tenant communications, and service contract administration. • Respond promptly to emergencies and equipment failures. • Maintain inventory control and procure parts and supplies. • Conduct regular inspections and implement operational improvements. • Fulfill shift, on‑call, and watch duties as required.

What You Bring

Required education is a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with at least seven years of commercial‑property engineering experience or a comparable mix of education and experience. Preferred qualifications include vocational or technical certifications, appropriate trade licenses (e.g., Journeyman or Master Electrician), and familiarity with budgets, energy‑management systems, fire alarm systems, and basic Office software.
