About the Role

• Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strikes arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded • Detects faulty operation, equipment, or defective materials and notifies supervisors • Monitors fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, distortion, or expansion of materials • Examines and recognizes defects • Recognizes, sets up, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade • Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers

What You Bring

Successful candidates will have a solid background in industrial maintenance and at least four to five years of experience with industrial boiler tubes. They must be proficient with hand and power tools, possess strong manual dexterity, good reading comprehension, and the ability to interpret technical manuals. Effective teamwork and communication skills, commitment to Zachry’s safety values, and a clean criminal background are required. Current Zachry welding certification – restricted 200 (Carbon TIG and stick) and 600 (Carbon open‑root TIG) – is also necessary, with former Zachry employment, vocational training, or coal‑power plant experience considered a plus. The position demands significant physical activity, including prolonged standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, and occasional work at heights or in confined spaces. Employees must use personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel‑toe boots. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve moderate to high noise levels. • Demonstrated industrial maintenance history experience • Knowledge and experience with hand tools and power tools • Good aptitude and manual dexterity • Good reading comprehension • Ability to work with others – team player • Good communication skills with co‑workers and supervisors • Understands how to read and interpret technical manuals to determine work procedures • Meets pre‑set criminal background check criteria for site access • Clamps, holds, tack‑welds, heat‑bends, grinds or bolts component parts to obtain required welding configurations • Minimum 4‑5 years industrial boiler tube experience • Holds current or passes Zachry restricted welding certification • 200 Restricted Carbon TIG and stick certification • 600 Restricted Carbon open‑root TIG certification • Former Zachry employee (valued but not required) • Training in vocational schools or related on‑the‑job experience (valued but not required) • Experience in coal power plant (valued but not required)
