About the Role
The Senior Workday HRIS Manager will lead the strategy, optimization, and governance of AvalonBay’s Workday HCM and PATTs platform. This functional ownership involves close partnership with HR, IT, Payroll, Finance, and external vendors to keep the system stable, scalable, compliant, and continuously improving. The role requires a hands‑on Workday expert who enjoys building solutions, driving change, and aligning technology with organizational growth. Key responsibilities include owning all Workday modules, maintaining system health and data integrity, and managing semi‑annual release cycles. The manager will design and configure business processes, enforce security and compliance frameworks, develop reporting and analytics, and oversee integrations with payroll, benefits, and learning systems. Leadership duties involve mentoring HRIS analysts, setting team priorities, and establishing operating models for efficient intake and triage. • Own and maintain Workday HCM, Recruiting, Talent, Learning, Compensation, Absence, Benefits, and PATTs modules. • Ensure system health, data integrity, audit readiness, and manage semi‑annual Workday releases. • Partner with HR leadership to translate business needs into scalable Workday solutions. • Design, configure, test, and deploy business processes, eligibility rules, validations, notifications, and calculated fields. • Manage Workday security roles, conduct regular audits, and ensure compliance with SOX and data privacy standards. • Develop and maintain standard, advanced, and matrix reports; define KPIs and dashboards with business leaders. • Lead impact assessments, testing, and deployment for Workday release cycles and communicate changes. • Support and troubleshoot inbound/outbound integrations (benefits, payroll, background checks, LMS) and collaborate with IT on monitoring. • Oversee AMS partners, Workday support tickets, and vendor relationships. • Lead, mentor, and develop HRIS analysts/administrators; set team priorities and performance goals.

What You Bring
Candidates must have 6–10+ years of HRIS experience with deep, hands‑on Workday expertise and at least three years leading configuration and production support. Required skills include mastery of Workday HCM & PATTs processes, security, calculated fields, and reporting, as well as experience supporting a medium‑enterprise organization of 3,000+ employees and strong stakeholder engagement. Preferred qualifications are Workday certifications, implementation or major rollout experience, and exposure to payroll, benefits, or finance integrations. • 6–10+ years HRIS experience with hands‑on Workday expertise; 3+ years leading configuration and production support. • Deep knowledge of Workday HCM & PATTs processes, security framework, calculated fields, and reporting. • Experience supporting medium‑enterprise organizations (3,000+ employees) and strong stakeholder engagement. • Preferred: Workday certifications (HCM, PATTs, Security, Reporting, Recruiting); implementation or major rollout experience; payroll, benefits, or finance integration exposure.
