About the Role
The estimator will organize, plan, and schedule estimate preparation while leading teams of estimators on large projects. Responsibilities include facilitating meetings, assigning work, preparing trade partner strategies, invitations to bid, and budgets, ensuring complete pricing coverage and obtaining BIM documentation, as well as promoting collaboration for comprehensive scope and budget alignment. Additional duties involve conducting quantity surveys, determining site logistics, utilizing cost history for pricing, ensuring estimates meet margin goals, and presenting margin plans during Bid Day. The role also requires using Eos Cortex for cost modeling and value analysis, preparing self‑performed work scopes, building relationships with operations, design partners, trade partners, and owners, and coaching and mentoring team members. • Lead and organize estimate preparation for large electrical MEP projects. • Facilitate estimate meetings, assign tasks, and ensure comprehensive, reliable estimates. • Develop trade partner strategies, issue bid invitations, and manage BIM‑based pricing documentation. • Conduct quantity take‑offs, assess site logistics, and apply cost‑history data to pricing. • Ensure estimates meet company margin targets and present margin plans during Bid Day. • Utilize Eos Cortex for cost modeling, value analysis, and target‑value delivery studies. • Prepare and supervise self‑performed work scopes with accurate cost allocation. • Build and maintain relationships with operations, design partners, trade partners, and owners. • Coach, mentor, and develop junior estimators while advancing group capabilities. • Maintain expertise in building systems, contract types, construction law, and risk mitigation.

What You Bring
Mortenson is seeking a Senior MEP Estimator I • Electrical to lead estimating efforts for large projects, gathering, calculating, and compiling data to produce project estimates and potentially manage multiple projects. This hybrid role must be based in Chicago, Denver, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Nashville, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, or Seattle. Candidates must hold an associate or bachelor's degree in Estimating, Engineering, Construction Management, or related experience and have at least nine years of construction industry experience. They should be able to manage multiple large projects, be proficient with BIM and project documents, knowledgeable about building systems and contract types, and skilled in risk mitigation, cost modeling with Cortex, and understanding schedule and logistics impacts. • Minimum nine years of construction industry experience with a related degree. • Proven ability to manage multiple large projects and lead estimator teams. • Proficient in BIM, plans, and project documents for quantity surveying. • Skilled in using Cortex cost‑history software to set budgets and create cost models. • Strong understanding of schedule, logistics, and self‑performed work productivity. • Demonstrated coaching and mentorship of junior estimators. • Knowledge of construction law, EEO, inclusive behaviors, and professional communication.
