About the Role
The Controls Engineer role involves designing, documenting, and programming building automation systems (BAS) in line with project plans and specifications. The engineer will proactively communicate with stakeholders, manage requests for information, and identify technical risks and opportunities. Mentorship of less‑experienced Application Engineers is also a key component of the position. Key responsibilities include designing complete BAS solutions—controllers, sensors, networks, and hardware—and preparing thorough submittal packages and final documentation. The engineer will develop control strategies, program sequences of operation using WebCTRL and Eikon, and integrate third‑party systems, followed by rigorous testing and commissioning. Additional duties involve providing technical support during sales, creating clear RFIs, communicating project risks, and leading safety and ethical compliance while mentoring fellow Controls Engineers. • Design and document building automation systems, including controllers, sensors, networks, and hardware, per project specifications. • Develop and program control strategies using WebCTRL/Eikon, integrating third‑party systems and user interfaces. • Perform functional testing, factory witness tests, and on‑site commissioning of complex BAS projects. • Provide technical support during the sales process, create clear RFIs, and communicate project risks and opportunities. • Mentor junior Controls Engineers while upholding safety standards and the Carrier code of ethics.

What You Bring
Required qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of BAS/HVAC controls experience, or a High School Diploma with ten years of relevant experience. Candidates must have five years of experience with BAS software and tools (e.g., Johnson Controls, Trane, Siemens) and three years working with communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, or LON. Preferred qualifications include a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical building systems, the ability to design and program most BAS projects, and skill in interpreting architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans. Proficiency in Automated Logic software, Microsoft Visio, and Office Suite, as well as experience mentoring team members, strong organizational abilities, and willingness to travel up to 20% are also valued. Physical capability to lift 50 lb and climb ladders over 8 ft is required, along with a valid government‑issued ID. • Minimum 5 years BAS/HVAC controls experience (or 10 years with high school diploma) and expertise with BAS software and protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc.). • Proficient in Automated Logic, Microsoft Visio, and Office Suite; able to interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans. • Willingness to travel up to 20 % and capable of lifting 50 lb and climbing ladders over 8 ft.
