About the Role
The Sorter role involves safely and efficiently processing incoming recyclable materials to ensure that the outbound commodities meet quality standards for sale to brokers or mills. The sorter ensures that processed materials meet the specifications required by downstream buyers. Key duties include separating recoverable items such as aluminum, plastic, glass, and paper, placing them into designated chutes, and assisting teammates with heavy or bulky loads. The sorter must adhere to all safety protocols, halt the conveyor belt during emergencies, and inspect incoming loads for prohibited waste, removing any unsuitable items. Effective communication with equipment operators about special waste streams is also essential, along with handling additional tasks as required. • Sort and segregate recoverable materials such as aluminum, plastic, glass, and paper. • Deposit sorted materials safely and efficiently into the appropriate chutes. • Assist fellow sorters with heavy or bulky items as needed. • Follow all company safety policies, including stopping the conveyor belt in emergencies. • Inspect incoming loads for unacceptable waste and remove prohibited items. • Communicate with equipment operators about special waste or loads requiring special attention.
