About the Role

The Director of Planning and Scheduling will lead Mortenson's project planning and execution efforts, creating standardized lean planning frameworks and providing support to project teams to achieve safer, higher‑quality, and more productive outcomes while minimizing risk. Key responsibilities include defining the strategic direction for planning, integrating Lean and innovation goals, governing planning policies and risk‑management practices, and partnering with technical leaders and operating groups to advance planning methodologies. The role also involves mentoring planners, superintendents, foremen, and schedulers, documenting best practices, enhancing learning and training programs, delivering just‑in‑time planning support, developing planning KPIs, and evaluating new tools and technologies. • Set strategic direction for project planning and execution. • Align planning processes with Lean and innovation objectives. • Govern planning policies and risk‑management guidelines. • Collaborate with technical leaders and operating groups to improve planning practices. • Lead, coach, and develop planners, superintendents, foremen, and schedulers. • Capture and share best‑practice knowledge for continuous improvement. • Design and deliver just‑in‑time training and support for project teams. • Create and monitor planning KPIs and assessment methods. • Evaluate and adopt new planning tools, technologies, and processes.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field and possess at least 12 years of industry experience, including successful implementation of Lean construction methods such as the Last Planner System. Experience leading company‑wide planning initiatives, field operations planning, work packaging, and trade‑flow management is required, with preferred background as a superintendent or project manager. Strong leadership, communication, problem‑solving, and teamwork skills are essential, along with expertise in Primavera P6, CPM, LBS, WBS, and knowledge of various planning software and construction contracts. The ability to travel 100% is mandatory. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in construction management and 12+ years of industry experience. • Demonstrated success implementing Lean construction (Last Planner) and company‑wide planning programs. • Expertise in Primavera P6, CPM, LBS, WBS, and the Last Planner System. • Ability to travel 100% and work across multiple project sites.

Benefits

The compensation range for this role is $158,600 to $238,000, with higher ranges for certain locations, and includes eligibility for Mortenson’s incentive plan. Benefits for eligible employees (non‑craft, 25+ hours/week) cover medical, vision, and dental plans, a 401(k) with generous match, paid time off and holidays, employer‑paid life, AD&D, and disability insurance, mental‑health resources, tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance, and a gym membership discount program.
