Steel Design Engineer

About the Role

As the technical project lead for steel structures, you will support all project phases from sales through design, production, and site installation, coordinating internal engineering teams in Brno (Czech Republic) and Chennai (India) as well as external steel suppliers. You will be technically responsible for project execution in accordance with applicable codes and standards, working closely with the Saudi Arabian supply chain for technical offer closure and material ordering, and providing remote support to the I&C team during site installation. The role includes leading technical meetings, offering advice and solutions to sales, project engineering, and customers, and interfacing GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) project engineering with scaffold engineering, while developing templates, improving checklists, and reducing man‑hour costs through optimized design solutions. • Lead technical design and execution of steel structures across project phases from sales to site installation. • Prepare designs, specifications, schedules, cost estimates, and oversee production, transportation, installation, testing, and commissioning. • Coordinate internal engineering teams in Brno and Chennai and manage external steel suppliers. • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and internal regulations while meeting cost and deadline targets. • Collaborate with the Saudi Arabian supply chain for technical offers and material ordering. • Support the I&C team remotely and lead technical meetings with sales, project engineering, and customers. • Develop templates, improve checklists, and optimize designs to reduce man‑hour costs. • Uphold Hitachi Energy core values of safety and integrity in all actions.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a technical background and has at least five years of civil engineering experience, capable of interpreting engineered documents and solving complex structural design challenges through analytical thinking and innovative problem‑solving. Proficiency in both spoken and written English and Arabic is required, and adherence to Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity is expected.
