About the Role
The Northern California Water Business Development Leader will drive innovation and build strategic partnerships for water infrastructure projects in the San Joaquin Valley. Working with the Water Business Group management, the role focuses on developing business opportunities, expanding client relationships, and collaborating across all HDR business groups to grow the firm’s regional footprint. • Co‑create annual growth strategies and meet ambitious financial goals. • Build and expand relationships with key public and private decision‑makers in the San Joaquin Valley. • Partner with technical and market leaders to craft winning proposals and strategies. • Leverage HDR business tools to track progress, analyze trends, and inform decisions. • Develop compelling storytelling and marketing materials that showcase expertise. • Serve as a trusted advisor and project principal to ensure client satisfaction and long‑term partnerships. • Mentor emerging professionals and represent HDR at industry events and panels. • Identify and qualify leads to achieve annual sales targets. • Manage business development and marketing budgets, CRM, and financial reporting dashboards. • Monitor market trends and develop partnerships with teaming firms. • Lead capture planning and pursuit teams, applying HDR’s Matrix of Authority for go/no‑go decisions. • Oversee creation, quality review, and delivery of proposal and interview materials, coaching interview teams. • Facilitate debriefs to capture improvement opportunities and celebrate pursuit successes. • Supervise and develop business development and marketing staff; recruit for key positions. • Gather and act on client feedback; apply HDR risk management in new business pursuits.

What You Bring
• Minimum 15 years of relevant A/E/C industry experience. • Proven self‑starter with a track record of completing projects with limited oversight. • Deep knowledge of A/E/C procurement processes and ability to build a robust client network. • Demonstrated success in winning high‑value contracts and developing effective win strategies. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including compelling content creation. • Strong financial acumen, negotiation skills, and budgeting experience. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Willingness to travel and engage in‑person with stakeholders. • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; professional or engineering registration preferred.
