About the Role
The Senior Project Engineer manages a small project or a component of a larger, complex project with oversight, applying JE Dunn processes and tools for project management, administration, and field execution. This role makes decisions within its area of responsibility, provides recommendations to supervisors, and refers exceptions as needed. The career path leads to Project Manager 1. The position supports JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values, requiring a commitment to safety, quality, and collaborative teamwork. It involves mentoring for an injury‑free environment, applying Lean practices, and building strong relationships with tradespeople, foremen, subcontractors, and the broader project team. • Perform safety and quality plan tasks; mentor others for an injury‑free environment. • Coordinate QA/QC planning for assigned tasks. • Participate in estimating, quantity take‑off, and subcontractor proposal review. • Monitor crew size, self‑perform hours, materials, and equipment on site. • Manage punch lists, city inspections, safety and quality reviews, and related documentation. • Post up‑to‑date drawings and specifications. • Organize project meetings and disseminate required documentation. • Prepare and track daily, weekly, and progress reports, including manpower, production schedules, and equipment tracking. • Conduct job site observations with project leadership. • Create procurement logs, track shop drawings, and follow up on deliveries. • Provide progress updates to support the scheduling process. • Oversee project close‑out, including punch lists, O&M manuals, and as‑built drawings. • Apply best‑practice construction techniques and Lean principles. • Build relationships and communicate effectively with tradespeople, foremen, superintendents, and subcontractors. • Identify and integrate self‑perform opportunities into the project. • Lead preparation of estimates for base, self‑perform work, and change requests; define scopes and select subcontractors. • Make decisions on subcontractor and vendor selection. • Coordinate purchase orders for material timing, deliveries, changes, and repairs. • Manage job set‑up and project administration in CMiC and other technologies. • Lead the submittal process to align with the project schedule. • Prepare and manage the project schedule for the assigned scope. • Analyze and report production statistics for key project components. • Manage risks related to subcontractor performance, financials, and resource allocation. • Coordinate pre‑planning, post‑construction, monthly review, progress, and Owner‑Architect‑Contractor (OAC) meetings. • Review and approve monthly subcontractor and vendor pay applications. • Initiate issue discussions to foster collaborative problem solving. • Lead project close‑out, managing punch lists, quality, costs, and scheduling inspections. • Provide training and mentorship to team members. • Build cross‑team relationships and collaborate internally and externally. • Assess and optimize project productivity and profitability. • Lead teams to achieve production goals.
