About the Role

The position involves leading a multidisciplinary team on geotechnical and construction materials testing projects, designing embankments, retaining structures, subgrade stabilization, and both deep and shallow foundations using MicroStation and OpenRoads. Responsibilities also include overseeing field explorations, serving as the primary point of contact for DOT project managers, developing and sealing engineering reports, managing budgets and resources, driving business development, cultivating relationships with key agency and consultant stakeholders, and ensuring 100% compliance with NCDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards. • Lead multidisciplinary team on geotechnical and construction materials testing projects. • Design embankments, retaining structures, subgrade stabilization, and foundations using MicroStation and OpenRoads. • Plan and oversee geotechnical field explorations, including drilling and test pits. • Serve as primary liaison for DOT project managers and external stakeholders. • Produce and approve geotechnical engineering reports and design packages. • Manage project budgets and resource allocation to ensure on‑time delivery. • Drive business development by identifying regional opportunities and leading technical proposal content. • Build and maintain relationships with DOT officials, municipal agencies, and Tier 1 consultants. • Ensure compliance with NCDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards for all deliverables.

What You Bring

Qualified candidates must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering and possess a Professional Engineer license (Professional Geologist acceptable in some states). At least five years of experience in geotechnical and transportation engineering, expertise in DOT Geotechnical Design Manual, AASHTO LRFD specifications, and related software, along with strong analytical, report‑writing, and communication skills, are required. ECS is an employee‑owned firm with over 3,000 employees, ranked among the top design and environmental firms nationally. • Hold a B.S. or M.S. in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering and a PE license (PG optional). • Minimum 5 years experience in geotechnical and transportation engineering with design and project management. • Expertise in DOT Geotechnical Design Manual, AASHTO LRFD, and software such as gINT, LPile, APile, MSEW, FB‑Pier, GRLWEAP; MicroStation preferred. • Demonstrated experience leading technical reviews as senior reviewer. • Strong analytical, report‑writing, and communication abilities; proactive problem‑solving leadership. • Valid driver’s license for travel.
