About the Role
The Safety Specialist in AFG coordinates and implements the field safety program for routine construction projects. Responsibilities include regular site walk‑through inspections, safety audits, documenting hazardous conditions, and using internal safety management systems to track abatement. The role also conducts new‑hire orientations, monitors drug and alcohol compliance, oversees contractor safety programs, and participates in pre‑planning and progress meetings. Additional duties involve supporting field leadership with safety meetings and committees, chairing project safety committees, investigating accidents to determine root causes, and coordinating injured employees with clinics to ensure timely treatment and return‑to‑work. The specialist also compiles injury progress reports and monitors the site safety incentive program. • Apply extensive equipment, law, and process knowledge to deliver project‑specific safety recommendations. • Use safety management systems to perform trend analysis, pinpoint problem areas, and recommend mitigation solutions. • Provide guidance and training on basic and intermediate safety topics for new and existing personnel. • Assist safety leadership during insurance audits. • Oversee large or complex projects, including multiple concurrent assignments. • Manage controlled insurance program projects. • Develop and implement training strategies and processes to support training objectives. • Partner with leadership to conduct needs assessments, gap analyses, and strategic training plans. • Analyze training needs to create new programs and improve existing ones. • Design effective training methods such as digital learning, classroom sessions, skill qualifications, and on‑the‑job training. • Identify and implement technologies to enhance learning experiences. • Monitor company safety metrics to identify areas for training improvement and intervention. • Deliver in‑person and virtual training sessions while ensuring training record retention.

What You Bring
Key knowledge, skills, and abilities include accurate and timely work performance, advanced verbal and written communication, proficiency with MS Office and company safety software, and thorough understanding of federal, state, local, and company safety regulations. The ability to recognize hazards, enforce corrective measures, and build collaborative relationships is essential. A bachelor’s degree in a safety‑related field is preferred, though equivalent experience is acceptable. Candidates must have at least five years of construction safety experience. A valid, unrestricted driver’s license is required. • Possess advanced safety knowledge to identify complex hazards and provide sophisticated abatement solutions. • Demonstrate strong communication skills and take an active role in meetings.
