About the Role
Mortenson's Minneapolis Operating Group is seeking a Project Operations Accountant to provide accounting, analysis, and financial support for construction projects. The role serves as the primary liaison between the Finance and Accounting department and project teams, ensuring accurate financial management throughout project execution. • Review construction contract requirements and allocate budgets accordingly. • Assist with certified payroll, minority participation reporting, and project insurance compliance. • Track subcontractor lien waivers when necessary. • Process receivables, prepare cost‑plus billings, and ensure timely cash receipt posting. • Prepare and enter lump‑sum billings as required. • Process payables, manage sales/use tax, set up new vendors and sub‑contracts, and review equipment pre‑bill reports. • Conduct project cost analysis, prepare specialized reports, and support monthly financial projections. • Manage labor cost components, maintain team member records, capture weekly hours, and verify certified payroll accuracy. • Answer PCIM policy questions, represent Mortenson during audits, and support annual inventory procedures.

Candidates should note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position. • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent experience. • Minimum three years of accounting experience, preferably in construction accounting. • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills to handle multiple concurrent projects. • Knowledge of percentage‑of‑completion accounting and construction contracts. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and ERP accounting systems. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to support many team members while remaining highly organized.
