Job Highlights
About the Role
Operators are responsible for safely operating heavy construction equipment, performing daily pre‑ and post‑start inspections, and reporting any deficiencies. They must conduct routine maintenance, change attachments, and ensure equipment is secured, shut down and keyed out when not in use. The role also requires loading and unloading materials, handling concrete barriers, maintaining grade control, and coordinating with supervisors, fleet personnel and ground‑men to verify utility locations and site conditions. • Perform pre‑start, post‑start, and daily safety inspections using documented checklists and report any malfunctions. • Operate backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and related attachments safely and efficiently. • Conduct routine maintenance, change attachments (forks, booms, hydraulic hammers) and secure equipment with pins before shutdown. • Load and unload materials, transport concrete barriers, and manage truck loading up to 20 trucks per shift. • Maintain grade control, perform cut‑and‑fill excavation according to survey stakes, and monitor utility locations before work. • Communicate equipment status, damages, or breakdowns to supervisors and the fleet department promptly. • Ensure all personnel stay clear of equipment reach zones and follow safety‑sensitive procedures, including key removal during washing or maintenance. • Assist with non‑operating duties as needed and lead a ground man for utility spotting when required.

What You Bring
Candidates need at least one year of experience operating a loader or backhoe, three years for excavators or bulldozers, and five years for roadway finishing work. Required documentation includes industry-standard competency certifications, and a high-school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Physical ability to lift 50‑80 lb frequently (up to 150 lb with assistance) and a solid understanding of equipment capacities, safety protocols and utility‑location procedures are essential. • Minimum 1 year experience with loader/backhoe, 3 years with excavator/bulldozer, or 5 years in roadway finishing. • Hold required industry competency certifications and preferably a high‑school diploma. • Ability to lift 50‑80 lb frequently (up to 150 lb with assistance) and climb on/off heavy equipment safely.
