About the Role
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of construction machinery, including excavators up to 20 tons, dozers, loaders, forklifts, backhoes, and articulated dump trucks. The role supports material handling, land clearing, excavation, grading, and underground utility work across heavy civil, industrial, and wind projects. Key duties include safely operating equipment, maneuvering blades to remove topsoil and vegetation, loading and transporting materials, excavating trenches to OSHA‑specified slopes, and coordinating movements with crew signals. The operator also performs routine maintenance such as cleaning, greasing, and daily reporting, and may be required to travel between job sites on short notice. • Operate excavators, dozers, loaders, forklifts, backhoes, and dump trucks for construction tasks. • Remove topsoil, vegetation, and rocks using blade‑equipped equipment. • Load and transport dirt, stone, equipment, and waste to trucks. • Excavate OSHA‑compliant trenches with proper slopes. • Coordinate equipment movements with crew signals. • Perform daily equipment maintenance, cleaning, greasing, and reporting. • Travel to multiple job sites on short notice as required. • Lift and carry objects up to 50 lb; push, pull, and climb as needed. • Work 12‑hour shifts in extreme temperatures and variable weather. • Navigate confined, cluttered, and uneven work areas.

What You Bring
Candidates must have 1‑3 years of heavy‑equipment experience, a minimum of one year operating similar machinery, and a solid understanding of safety programs, OSHA regulations, and equipment manuals. Strong communication skills, basic math proficiency, and the ability to read technical documents are essential. The position demands a high level of physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 50 lb, work 12‑hour shifts in varying weather, and navigate confined or uneven terrain. Workers must use personal protective equipment and may be required to work at heights while adhering to fall‑protection standards. • 1‑3 years of heavy‑equipment operation experience (minimum 1 year required). • Knowledge of MIC Health & Safety programs and OSHA regulations. • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and technical documents. • Basic arithmetic skills for weight and volume calculations. • Strong verbal communication and listening abilities. • Wear required PPE (safety shoes, hard hat, gloves, etc.) and comply with fall‑protection standards.
