About the Role

Interns will work on pump stations, pipelines, water resources, and stormwater projects, supporting all phases—from planning and design to construction—across gravity sewers, force mains, water distribution, transmission pipelines, and related hydrologic/hydraulic modeling studies. The role collaborates with civil, mechanical, and other technical engineers to perform analyses, prepare reports and memoranda, coordinate with sub‑consultants, assist senior staff with schedules and budgets, and produce documentation that meets HDR’s quality standards, with occasional client interaction and field inspection. • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures under supervision • Participate in project tours with professional engineers • Review and create water/wastewater project plans, specifications, and conveyance designs • Use Excel and analytical tools to produce or verify design calculations • Draft and review technical memoranda and reports

What You Bring

The Water Resources and Conveyance Intern position is located in Denver, Colorado, offering hands‑on experience in a dynamic consulting environment alongside industry‑leading professionals on impactful water infrastructure projects. Candidates should be enrolled in a BS or MS civil, environmental, or related engineering program, with coursework in water distribution, wastewater collection, hydrology, hydraulics, or stormwater design, and possess familiarity with GIS, HEC‑RAS/HMS/SWMM, CAD/Civil3D, and Microsoft Office. Required qualifications include current enrollment in an engineering program, strong attention to detail, problem‑solving and communication skills, basic Microsoft Office proficiency, and a commitment to actively participating in HDR’s employee‑owned culture. • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate BS/MS engineering program • Completed coursework in water distribution, wastewater collection, hydrology, hydraulics, or stormwater design • Familiar with GIS, HEC‑RAS/HMS/SWMM, CAD/Civil3D, and similar modeling software • Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in collaborative teams • Prior experience on water conveyance or resources projects • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (preferred) • Demonstrated attention to detail and problem‑solving abilities
