About the Role

The role involves directing professional consulting firms that prepare permit applications, construction plans, site monitoring, and regulatory submittals, and delivering final work products. It also requires maintaining strong relationships with regulators, representing WM at permit meetings, hearings, and site inspections, and acting as a community liaison at technical conferences. You will manage landfill construction projects from plan preparation through final approval, including oversight of consultants, contractors, budgets, bid processes, contract administration, and quality‑assurance activities. Responsibilities also include tracking capital budgets, reporting to local and corporate management, and coordinating landfill capacity calculations and fill sequencing plans. Continuous site evaluation for compliance with construction and permit documents, proactive pursuit of required permits, and collaboration with WM subject‑matter experts to develop cost‑effective engineering solutions across landfills, transfer stations, and hauling operations are essential. You will also provide technical expertise to finance, legal, and safety functions and support acquisition reviews and divestiture evaluations. Mentoring and supervising WM technical staff assigned to your team is a key part of the role. You will also provide training to develop junior engineers. The role operates in a hybrid office and plant/field environment, requiring regular use of standard office equipment and occasional field work.
