About the Role

The Safety Manager supports project site crews and Safety Specialists by visiting sites, assessing unsafe conditions, and collaborating with project managers, supervision, and safety personnel to control and minimize risks to employees, subcontractors, and customers. The role requires a background in heavy civil construction. Key duties include previewing projects to identify safety and environmental risks, creating site‑specific safety plans and emergency action plans, and regularly inspecting active sites for compliance with internal plans and federal regulations. The manager documents hazards, works with supervision and craft workers to implement corrective actions, oversees contractor safety programs, audits training records, and leads investigations of accidents and injuries. The Safety Manager reports progress to the Project Manager, Director of Safety and executive staff, ensures all records and reports are accurate and timely, guarantees appropriate safety equipment is available, and supervises Safety Specialists on assigned projects. Additional responsibilities may be delegated by the Director of Safety. • Preview projects and sites to identify safety and environmental risks. • Develop site‑specific safety plans and Emergency Action Plans. • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with internal plans and federal regulations. • Document unsafe conditions and collaborate with management to implement corrective actions. • Manage contractors’ safety programs, training, and compliance audits. • Investigate accidents and injuries through interviews and equipment inspections. • Recommend disciplinary actions for safety violations. • Provide regular safety updates to project managers and executive leadership. • Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and required equipment inventories. • Supervise and develop Safety Specialists on assigned projects.

What You Bring

Candidates must have 5‑7 years of construction safety management experience in industrial or heavy civil settings, knowledge of excavation, trenching and soil mechanics, and familiarity with OSHA, MSHA and EPA regulations. Strong communication, judgment, multitasking and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to lead and develop Safety Specialists. A valid driver’s license is mandatory; OSHA 500, CSP, GSP, CHST or STSC certifications are preferred. • Hold 5–7 years of construction safety management experience in heavy civil or industrial environments. • Knowledge of excavation, trenching, soil mechanics and OSHA/MSHA/EPA regulations. • Strong communication, judgment, multitasking and interpersonal abilities. • Preferred certifications: OSHA 500, CSP, GSP, CHST, or STSC.
