About the Role
• Assist in scoping marine archaeological projects using GIS, site records, and other data sources. • Maintain State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) documentation for cultural resources. • Provide regulatory compliance support for federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients. • Serve as Field Director, scheduling work, assigning tasks, and training crews on equipment and methods. • Support all phases of archaeological investigation and regulatory compliance. • Collect information through observation, interviews, and document review. • Write archaeological reports, prepare site forms, and aid the Principal Investigator in project decisions and NRHP evaluations. • Coordinate with technical, lab, office, management, and administrative staff to meet AECOM quality standards. • Perform manual labor, including bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting up to 50 lb, and work outdoors in varied conditions.

What You Bring
We are seeking a Marine Project Archaeologist / Field Director to support cultural‑resource projects across the Southeast, the broader United States, and potentially internationally. The role requires expertise in marine field excavation, archaeological inventory, artifact analysis, and compliance reporting. The successful candidate will lead field crews, manage project scope, and ensure regulatory compliance throughout all investigation phases. • BA/BS degree with at least 2 years related experience (or equivalent). • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass AECOM motor vehicle records review. • U.S. citizenship is required. • Experience in marine archaeological projects. • Meets Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology or History. • MA or MS in Anthropology or related field. • Completed a university‑based archaeological field school. • Minimum two years supervisory experience (e.g., Crew Chief). • Knowledge of geophysical survey methods such as SBP, UHRS, side‑scan sonar, and marine magnetometer. • Experience interpreting sub‑bottom and shallow seismic data and reviewing geotechnical data. • Proficiency with HYPACK, Sonarwiz, SeiSee or IHS Markit Kingdom software. • AAUS Scientific Diver certification (or similar) with Rescue Diver or higher. • Willingness to complete basic SOLAS, BOSIET, or similar offshore safety training. • Proficient with GPS units, Total Stations, GIS (ESRI), and graphic illustration software (Adobe). • Experience conducting terrestrial archaeological investigations as a Crew Chief. • Demonstrated technical report writing experience.
