What You Bring

We are seeking a skilled and dependable General Operative to join the Repairs and Maintenance team in Grimsby. The role is primarily lone‑working, covering both occupied and void properties, and requires a practical blend of DIY ability, customer service and teamwork. Responsibilities include conducting property inspections, changing light bulbs, fitting blinds, applying silicone, securing doors, checking smoke alarms and completing other minor repairs to maintain high property standards. Candidates must possess basic DIY skills such as re‑plumbing a washing machine, fitting blinds, fixing door handles and silicone‑sealing baths, and be IT literate. Strong communication and customer service abilities are essential, along with a reliable full UK driving licence, own hand tools (spirit level, screwdrivers, hammers), excellent time‑keeping and a proactive ‘can‑do’ attitude. The role requires willingness to travel across Yorkshire and Humber when needed. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK; Mears does not sponsor visas. To drive a Mears vehicle, candidates must be over 21, have held their licence for at least three months and have fewer than nine penalty points. The General Operative position in Grimsby offers an annual salary of up to £29,374.62 plus a commercial vehicle and fuel card, on a permanent full‑time basis (42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm).
