About the Role

The Safety Engineer is part of Pepper Construction’s Safety Department and works primarily in the field to ensure safe work practices are implemented and enforced on projects. This full‑time role manages health and safety concerns, maintains required documentation and permits, and represents Pepper’s safety culture on site, which is a core company value. • Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance. • Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents. • Review daily Task Hazard Analyses and engage craft employees to convey safety messages. • Facilitate incident reporting, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions. • Assist in developing and maintaining job‑site safety plans and project‑specific safety plans. • Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and subcontractors to address safety concerns. • Maintain accurate safety records, documentation, and permit files. • Provide technical safety advice to field and office personnel. • Conduct safety orientations and training for new hires and existing team members. • Investigate accidents and incidents, recommending corrective measures. • Lead pre‑start safety meetings with trade partners and review safety plans. • Audit Task Hazard Analyses and contribute to the safety training program. • Identify safety improvement opportunities and suggest new guidelines, policies, or training.

What You Bring

The position is based at a large project site in Fayette County, Ohio, located off Interstate 71 between Columbus and Cincinnati, and requires daily on‑site presence, including weekends as needed. • Bachelor’s degree in safety management, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, or related field, or equivalent experience. • Minimum two years of professional safety experience on construction sites; mission‑critical project experience preferred. • OSHA 30‑hour certification required (OSHA 500 preferred). • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry best practices. • Ability to communicate effectively with all project personnel, from management to frontline workers. • Experience with MEP systems, lockout/tagout coordination, and various construction safety specialties preferred. • Ability to perform physical tasks, lift 50 lb, and work in noisy, fast‑paced environments. • Ability to be on‑site daily in Fayette County, including weekends. • Fluency in Spanish desired. • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
