About the Role

Key responsibilities include leading planning strategy and policy development, providing strategic advice to clients and internal teams, and representing AECOM at conferences and networking events. The Principal Planner will oversee project delivery, ensuring budgets, timelines, and quality standards are met while coordinating multidisciplinary teams. Additional duties involve quality assurance, health and safety compliance, and contributing to business development through client relationship nurturing and tender preparation. • Lead planning policy projects, including local plans, strategic growth studies, and infrastructure strategies. • Provide strategic planning advice to clients and internal teams; represent AECOM at conferences and networking events. • Manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on budget, on schedule, and to quality and H&S standards. • Contribute to business development by nurturing client relationships and preparing commercial tenders. • Participate in town planning team operations, leadership, and mentorship.

The role involves leading key planning policy projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and engaging directly with clients and stakeholders. The position is based in London’s Aldgate Tower office, with hybrid working options and full‑time or part‑time availability. The ideal candidate has significant experience leading planning policy and strategy in consultancy or public‑sector roles, strong client and stakeholder relationships, and a proven business‑development track record. Required skills include high‑quality technical report writing, excellent communication, initiative under pressure, and a commitment to quality. A degree in Town Planning (or related) and membership of the RTPI (or equivalent) are essential. • Require extensive planning policy/strategy experience, strong client/stakeholder relations, and a business‑development mindset. • Require a degree in Town Planning (or related) and RTPI (or equivalent) membership. • Demonstrate excellent technical report writing, communication, initiative, and commitment to quality.
