About the Role
The Construction Inspector II works within the Port’s landside construction program at Seattle‑Tacoma International Airport, inspecting roadway, utility, garage, and other infrastructure projects. The role ensures compliance with codes, regulations, and contract requirements, while evaluating, assessing, and resolving field‑level issues. Coordination with project leaders and stakeholders is a core responsibility. The inspector coordinates and conducts on‑site inspections, facilitates testing and special inspections, and verifies field measurements and quantities for contract payments. Monitoring of key compliance issues such as Temporary Erosion and Sediment Control (TESC) and enforcement of a quality assurance/control program are integral tasks. Additional duties include managing the project punch‑list process, handling complex utility shutdown requests, and preparing comprehensive documentation—inspection logs, daily reports, force accounts, materials testing records, photos, and other construction records. The role requires updating design plans to reflect construction changes, documenting non‑conforming work, and initiating Non‑Conformance Report (NCR) procedures. Participation in planning, pre‑construction, coordination, progress, scheduling, and field staff meetings, as well as contributing to construction management policies, is expected. • Conduct on‑site inspections and facilitate required testing and special inspections. • Verify field measurements/quantities for contract payments and monitor compliance issues such as TESC. • Manage and inspect project punch‑list processes. • Coordinate complex utility shutdowns and resolve impacts with customers, tenants, and Port departments. • Prepare and maintain inspection logs, daily reports, force accounts, materials testing records, photos, and other construction documentation. • Update design plans/drawings to reflect construction changes. • Document non‑conforming contractor work and initiate Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs). • Participate in planning, pre‑construction, progress, scheduling, and field staff meetings, and help develop construction management policies. • Communicate and coordinate construction activities among contractors, tenants, stakeholders, Port departments, and the public. • Apply equity principles and shared values in all work activities. • Train staff in work procedures and influence without direct authority.

What You Bring
Effective communication and coordination among contractors, tenants, stakeholders, Port departments, and the public are essential. The position also demands a commitment to equity, professional expertise across construction disciplines, and the ability to lead and train staff without direct authority. Candidates must have at least four years of construction or inspection experience and preferably an associate’s degree or vocational training in pre‑engineering, construction management, or inspection. Desired qualities include proficiency in construction methods and codes, strong verbal and written communication, adaptability, analytical judgment, and a collaborative leadership style. • Minimum four years of construction, general or special inspection experience. • Associate’s degree or vocational training in pre‑engineering, construction management, or inspection (preferred). • Proven expertise in construction operations, methods, materials, costs, and equipment across multiple disciplines. • Strong ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules. • Excellent verbal and written communication and active listening skills. • Demonstrated adaptability to changing environments and uncertain information. • Analytical judgment to identify and resolve problems or escalate when needed. • Leadership skills to train and influence staff without direct authority.
