About the Role

Under general supervision, the engineer will collect and analyze data from sites, including soil, water, sludge, rock, liner samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS and subsurface information. Tasks include performing basic geotechnical and civil engineering work such as subsurface investigations, settlement analysis, erosion assessment, lateral earth pressure calculations, and slope stability evaluations for various project types. The role also involves generating accurate documentation, complying with safety guidelines, completing assigned training, and adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.

What You Bring

WSP is initiating a search for an Early Career Geotechnical Engineer for its Lansing, MI or Holland, MI office. The role will involve projects with the Earth & Environment Team and contribute to meeting client objectives and solving challenges. WSP is an Equal Opportunity Employer and requires candidates to be authorized to work in the United States. • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field. • 0–1 year of relevant post‑education experience. • Strong research and analytical skills. • Familiarity with design and construction processes. • Effective interpersonal and communication abilities for technical and non‑technical audiences. • Self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking and prioritization in a dynamic environment. • Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaboratively in a team. • Basic proficiency in technical writing, office software, spreadsheets and engineering tools. • Knowledge of discipline‑specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, GeoSlope, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS). • Proven commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP health, safety and anti‑harassment policies. • Willingness to travel occasionally as required. • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification (preferred). • Prior internship related to the engineering discipline (preferred). • Membership or active participation in local professional practice organizations (preferred).
