About the Role

The position involves overall management of construction activities, interfacing with other departments to secure materials, equipment, and inspections, and collaborating with project managers on budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation. The superintendent will review construction documents for constructability, maintain and update schedules, and resolve design discrepancies with engineers. Additionally, the role includes overseeing site utilization, crew sizing, and formwork selection, as well as conducting pre‑construction planning and site meetings. Leadership duties include supervising work crews, coaching and mentoring field personnel, fostering teamwork, ensuring crews have necessary resources, and conducting performance evaluations. The superintendent will identify hiring needs, participate in hiring decisions, develop leadership potential, and enforce Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety Program. Managing union and open‑shop issues and maintaining relationships with visitors such as customers, architects, and subcontractors are also key responsibilities. • Overall management of construction activities and task assignments • Interface with other departments to ensure required materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule • Collaborate with Project Managers to budget, forecast, and manage labor, equipment, materials, tools, consumables, and the working environment • Review construction documents for completeness and constructability • Create, review, and update project schedule and three‑week look‑ahead planning • Coordinate plans and specifications with engineers, identifying and clarifying discrepancies • Develop and implement site utilization plan and establish crew sizes • Select formwork systems and equipment • Conduct effective pre‑construction planning sessions and site meetings • Oversight and supervision of work crews • Coach, mentor, and train field personnel, foremen, and assistant superintendents • Establish and nurture a teamwork environment • Ensure crews have necessary resources and support • Provide work direction and conduct performance evaluations • Identify hiring needs and participate in hiring, performance management, and dismissal decisions • Develop leadership potential through task assignments and career growth opportunities • Implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety Program at the project site • Manage open‑shop and union issues • Maintain relationships with site visitors: customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors, etc. • Manage site work and logistics efficiently, offering improvement suggestions

What You Bring

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Senior Superintendent I who can interact with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment. The role requires flexibility, resourcefulness, proactive problem‑solving, and a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. The superintendent will coordinate on‑site work activities and supervise teams across multiple or large, complex construction projects. Candidates must hold an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a construction‑related field or possess ten years of trade experience, along with at least fifteen years of construction experience and ten years in a supervisory role. Relevant experience includes solar or large industrial power projects, a solid understanding of construction law, intermediate Microsoft Office skills, a professional attitude, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to travel up to 100%. • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management, or 10 years trade experience • Minimum 15 years of construction experience • Minimum 10 years of supervisory experience • Experience with solar or large industrial power projects • Proven ability to handle multiple complex projects • Detail‑oriented to organize and manage multiple project tasks • Basic understanding of construction law and standard business practices • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills • Positive, professional attitude and strong customer service skills • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies • Current driver’s license • Ability to travel up to 100% of the time

The base salary ranges from $144,300 to $216,500, with higher ranges for certain locations, and the role is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
