About the Role

The Senior Transit Project Manager leads complex transit projects—including bus, BRT, streetcar, light rail, commuter rail, and support facilities—across all phases from planning and preliminary engineering through final design and construction support, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and delivering high‑profile infrastructure across North America. This role requires collaboration with HDR leadership, global transit market teams, and client stakeholders, as well as travel for in‑person engagements, while contributing to business development, client relationship management, and the employee‑owned culture that drives collaborative success. • Serve as project manager or support on major transit infrastructure projects. • Oversee project administration, including document control, procurement, DBE/ADA compliance, project controls, and risk management. • Develop work scopes, negotiate contracts and changes, and supervise engineering design activities. • Plan, organize, and manage capital project scopes, schedules, and budgets. • Lead projects from proposal through preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates for moderate to large transit projects. • Coordinate design development and construction documentation to meet schedule and budget objectives. • Independently coordinate professional staff throughout the entire project lifecycle. • Track financial aspects and adjust work efforts to ensure schedule compliance. • Foster long‑term client and partner relationships to ensure satisfaction through excellent service and delivery. • Collaborate with HDR’s national transit practice on business development, proposal preparation, client engagement, and contract negotiation. • Assist clients with day‑to‑day management of design, funding, construction, and project control for transit projects. • Lead teams on transportation planning and engineering projects. • Manage planning, engineering, and architectural activities for transit infrastructure design and construction. • Coordinate with governmental and private agencies during design and construction phases. • Update design criteria manuals, standard specifications, and details for transit capital projects. • Participate in client and partner review and concept/design meetings. • Conduct work sessions for design development. • Coordinate interdisciplinary review of documents to resolve conflicts. • Present design approaches at client meetings and technical discussions. • Manage and mentor project teams, providing technical guidance, QA/QC, and delivery strategies. • Implement QA/QC procedures.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred. • PMP certification. • Minimum 10 years of transit engineering experience. • At least 5 years managing complex transit projects with multidisciplinary teams. • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, time‑management, and leadership skills. • Experience with public transportation agencies and knowledge of FTA funding and regulatory processes. • Ability to travel for client meetings and project oversight. • Experience with rail or BRT corridor design. • Expertise in project budgeting, estimating, cost control, scheduling, and risk management. • Familiarity with local, regional, state, and federal transit planning agencies. • Experience with agencies such as Amtrak, WMATA, VRE, MARC, or MTA. • Knowledge of national, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and ADA accessibility guidelines. • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. • 10 years related experience. • Minimum 5 years project management experience. • Professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng) for the position’s location. • Proficiency with MS Office and MS Project (Access a plus). • Demonstrated leadership, business development, and strategic planning abilities.
