About the Role

The engineer will provide subject-matter technical support and leadership for multi-site and multi-phase due-diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development and construction of utility, industrial and commercial projects. Work will span research, concept development, planning and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution, regulation, renewable energy and protection and control systems across utilities, transportation, building and government projects. Key duties include collecting and analyzing site data, surveys, blueprints and GIS information to develop procurement packages and detailed designs that comply with IEEE, NESC, ANSI, NCEC and NERC standards. The engineer will coordinate, review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans, apply high-level engineering techniques to improve infrastructure across concept, preliminary, final design, procurement, construction and operation, and conduct comprehensive investigations of substations, grounding, lightning protection and power plants. Additional responsibilities involve developing construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety and phasing plans, and overseeing the entire design-to-construction lifecycle for projects such as grading, drainage, pavement, equipment layout and building materials. The role also leads larger-scale projects, manages budgets, monitors progress, supervises subcontractors, reviews permit applications and engineering designs, and ensures technical reports and presentations communicate findings and recommendations effectively. The engineer will mentor staff, support business development, stay current with emerging electrical engineering practices, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and ethical standards. Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and occasional travel may be required. • Provide technical support and leadership for utility, industrial and commercial electrical projects across all phases. • Oversee data collection, analysis, and design compliance with IEEE, NERC, and other industry standards. • Coordinate and approve electrical infrastructure designs for mid-level to complex projects. • Conduct investigations and inspections of substations, grounding, lightning protection, and power plants. • Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety and phasing plans. • Lead large-scale electrical engineering projects, manage budgets, monitor progress, and supervise subcontractors. • Review permit applications, engineering designs, and conduct construction inspections for regulatory compliance. • Prepare technical reports and presentations for clients and stakeholders. • Mentor junior staff and contribute to business development and client relationship growth.

What You Bring

The position is accountable for the successful completion of assigned projects and for maintaining and improving client relationships. It requires strong technical competence, the ability to mentor team members, and self-management skills, including the capability to explain complex technical issues to decision-makers and project teams. Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, 10 + years of relevant experience in power generation, transmission or distribution, a Professional Engineer license (multi-state preferred), and high proficiency with engineering principles, codes, calculations and design software such as CADD, ETAP and Inventor. Preferred qualifications are a Master’s degree, OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and basic First Aid/CPR certification. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 10+ years of experience in power generation, transmission, or distribution. • Professional Engineer license (multi-state preferred) and proficiency with design software (CADD, ETAP, Inventor, etc.). • Strong knowledge of codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. • Excellent communication, problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills. • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and adapt to changing schedules. • Preferred: Master’s degree, OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training, First Aid/CPR certification.
