About the Role
The Quality Control Inspector coordinates production activities with Department of Transportation (DOT) inspectors to ensure that DOT witnessing and quality‑control hold points are completed. Responsibilities include visual and layout inspections, bolt capacity testing, monitoring welder qualifications, recording welding parameters, and performing dimensional checks using tools such as a Total Station. The role also works with external inspectors to resolve quality issues and seeks continual improvements in the QC process. Key duties involve auditing the Quality Management System, maintaining a log of work performed, and generating required reports. The inspector collaborates with welders, leadmen, and supervisors to keep quality flowing through the shop, remains reachable via radio for on‑call checks, and interprets specifications and applicable codes. Flexibility to adjust shift hours and a focus on safe work habits are essential. • Perform visual inspections of material. • Conduct layout checks. • Run rotational capacity tests on bolts before shop use. • Collaborate with external inspectors to resolve floor quality issues. • Monitor welder qualification tests. • Record welding parameters to ensure WPS compliance. • Read and interpret welding codes and specifications. • Perform dimensional checks on laydowns and shop assemblies; use Total Station as needed. • Develop quality‑control process improvements to enhance shop workflow. • Audit the Quality Management System. • Ensure quality work flows through the shop. • Work with welders and leadmen to maintain quality. • Maintain logs and complete required reports. • Interpret specifications and applicable codes. • Coordinate QC hold‑point inspections between production and DOT inspectors. • Promote and practice safe working habits. • Communicate results, evaluate problems, and propose corrective actions. • Interpret blueprints and verify geometric tolerances of fabricated parts. • Apply strong attention to detail and make decisions based on codes and specifications. • Coordinate with shipping to ensure loads are inspected and ready to ship. • Plan work with supervisors to facilitate quality flow. • Use Total Station to assist crews and finalize assemblies during off‑shifts. • Maintain positive attitude, promote team morale, and coach for improved workmanship. • Maintain a zero‑accident safety record. • Increase throughput by streamlining work and making improvements.

What You Bring
Successful performance requires strong communication with crews, supervisors, and the Quality Manager, as well as the ability to read blueprints and verify geometric tolerances. Attention to detail, sound decision‑making based on project codes, and coordination with the shipping department to confirm load readiness are critical. Proficiency with Total Station equipment, a positive attitude, and the ability to coach teammates further enhance workmanship quality. Performance is measured by a consistent attendance record, zero‑accident safety history, increased throughput through workflow improvements, and positive feedback from peers and supervisors. Candidates must hold a Certified Welding Inspector certification or ASNT VT Level II; preferred qualifications include ASNT MT and UT Level II, NACE or SSPC BCI Level I, and a fabrication shop background. The position is a 4th‑shift role (5 pm–5 am) on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with a 36‑hour schedule paid for 40 hours. • Be available via radio to perform required checks. • Flexibly work early or late within assigned shift. • Achieve outstanding work and attendance record. • Hold Certified Welding Inspector certification or ASNT VT Level II. • Preferred: ASNT MT Level II, ASNT UT Level II, NACE or SSPC BCI Level I, fabrication shop background.
