About the Role
Interns will support a variety of engineering tasks, learn basic metallurgical and process‑engineering principles, assist with research, preliminary design calculations, and the preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates. Additional duties include maintaining project documentation, completing task‑specific training, and adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and safety policies. Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs. • Support engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills. • Conduct project research and perform preliminary design calculations and analysis. • Prepare final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates. • Collect and maintain project documentation. • Complete assigned task training and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Travel occasionally as project requirements dictate.

What You Bring
The Earth & Environment Team is seeking a full‑time Metallurgical Engineering Intern for the Summer 2026 program in Lakewood, CO. This temporary 12‑week position begins around May 18 2026 (flexible start date) and is open to candidates currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. Required qualifications include active enrollment in an accredited Chemical, Metallurgical, or Mineral Process Engineering program with expected graduation August 2026 or later, a demonstrated interest in extractive metallurgical processes, strong communication skills, ability to follow direction, basic proficiency with technical writing and office software, a solid safety record, and U.S. work authorization. Preferred qualifications cover experience in process design, material and energy balances, cost estimation, familiarity with a wide range of process operations, interest in flowsheet development for various commodities, and prior internship or leadership experience. Compensation ranges from $22.16 to $30.25 per hour in Colorado, with additional benefits subject to company policy. • Enrolled in an accredited Chemical, Metallurgical, or Mineral Process Engineering program, graduating August 2026 or later. • Demonstrated interest in extractive metallurgical process engineering. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences. • Ability to follow direction from mentors and managers. • Proficiency in technical writing, office software, and spreadsheets. • Authorization to work in the United States. • Experience with process design, material and energy balances, PFDs, and cost estimation. • Familiarity with various process operations such as crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching, etc. • Prior internship or leadership experience on campus.
