About the Role

A Helper supports construction activities at a power plant by handling manual tasks such as moving and retrieving equipment, digging, and providing fire‑safety standby. The role follows directions from a supervisor or journeyman and may involve additional duties as assigned. The position requires flexibility to work up to seven days per week as needed. Core responsibilities include moving equipment, digging, and retrieving tools, as well as standing by for fire safety and operating fire extinguishers. The helper may climb onto structures, scaffolding, ladders, or platforms and use rigging and hoisting devices such as chokers, chain falls, and come‑alongs to position materials. Preventative maintenance tasks, including lubrication and minor repairs, are also performed. All work is performed under the direction of a supervisor or journeyman. • Move, dig, and retrieve equipment on power plant construction sites. • Operate fire extinguishers and stand by for fire safety. • Climb structures, scaffolding, ladders, and work at heights. • Use rigging and hoisting devices (chokers, chain falls, come‑alongs) to position materials. • Perform preventative maintenance such as lubrication and minor repairs. • Follow directions from supervisors or journeymen.

What You Bring

Candidates must be able to meet the physical demands of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 50 lb, and must possess experience with industrial hand and power tools. Reliable transportation and the ability to work in all weather conditions for up to 12 hour shifts are required. Preference is given to former Zachry employees, individuals with basic mechanical knowledge, industrial construction experience, and formal technical education. The role requires a basic knowledge of hand and power tools, strong problem‑solving ability, and good manual dexterity. Employees must demonstrate reading comprehension, effective communication with co‑workers and supervisors, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Commitment to Zachry’s safety rules, values, and regulations is essential. This position has no direct reports. Physical requirements include prolonged standing, walking, bending, squatting, and occasional work at heights, as well as the ability to lift, carry, and move loads up to 50 lb. Workers must have adequate hand and finger dexterity for precision adjustments and must use visual acuity for depth perception and peripheral vision. The job demands exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and extended shifts of up to 12 hours. Required personal protective equipment includes a hard hat, safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection, respirator, safety vest, gloves, and steel‑toe boots. • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively. • Communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors. • Meet physical demands: stand, walk, bend, squat, lift up to 50 lb, work outdoors in all weather for up to 12 hours. • Wear required PPE: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, respirator, safety vest, gloves, steel‑toe boots. • Possess reliable transportation and availability to work any day as needed. • Preferred: prior Zachry experience, basic mechanical knowledge, industrial construction background, technical education.
